10 Essential Daily Duas Every Muslim Should Know

Dua is the believer’s direct line to Allah — no appointment, no special place needed. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Dua is worship” (Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3372, graded sahih). Here are 10 essential daily duas for Muslims — short, authentic and tied to the moments of an ordinary day.

    1. Why Daily Duas Change Your Day

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not remember his Lord is like the living and the dead.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6407)

Daily duas for Muslims are not decoration — they are protection, gratitude and direction woven into the routine. A dua on waking, a word before eating, a supplication before sleep: each one turns an ordinary moment into worship.

    2. Two Powerful Morning Duas to Begin the Day

Sayyid al-Istighfar — the master of seeking forgiveness. Whoever recites it in the morning with firm belief, and dies that day before evening, will be from the people of Paradise (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6306):

“Allahumma anta rabbi la ilaha illa anta, khalaqtani wa ana ‘abduka, wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu, a’udhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu, abu’u laka bini’matika ‘alayya, wa abu’u laka bidhanbi faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfiru adh-dhunuba illa anta.”

(O Allah, You are my Lord; none deserves worship but You. Forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.)

Protection for the whole day — three times. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: whoever says three times, morning and evening, “Bismillahil-lathee la yadurru ma’as-mihi shai’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i, wa Huwas-Sami’ul-‘Alim” (In Allah’s Name, with Whose Name nothing can harm, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) — nothing will harm him (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 5088; Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3388).

    3. Duas Around Your Food: Before and After Eating

Before eating: simply “Bismillah.” The Prophet, peace be upon him, taught: say Bismillah before eating, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). If you forget at the start, say: “Bismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi; Sunan Abu Dawood).

After eating: “Alhamdu lillahil-lathee at’amana wa saqana wa ja’alana minal muslimin.” (All praise is due to Allah, who fed us and gave us drink and made us Muslims.) (Sunan Abu Dawood; Jami’ al-Tirmidhi). Two seconds of gratitude after every meal.

    4. Duas for Leaving and Entering Home

Leaving home: “Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah” (In Allah’s name, I trust in Allah; no might or power except in Allah). The Prophet, peace be upon him, said it is then said to him: “You are guided, sufficed and protected” — and the devils move away from him (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 5095; Jami’ al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3426).

Entering home: mention Allah’s name when you enter. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that when a person mentions Allah on entering his house and when eating, the shaytan tells his followers: “You have no place to stay and no dinner.” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2018). One word at the door — and the house stays guarded.

    5. Two Evening Duas for Protection

“SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi” one hundred times. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever says ‘SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi’ one hundred times a day, his sins will be forgiven, even if they were like the foam of the sea.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6405; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2691). It takes about five minutes a day.

Seeking refuge when night falls: “A’udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq” — I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created (Sahih Muslim).

    6. The Sunnah Duas Before Sleep

When you lie down: “Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya” — in Your name, O Allah, I die and I live (Sahih al-Bukhari).

The last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). Protection and reward before you fall asleep.

    7. Simple Tips to Make Daily Duas a Habit

    1. Anchor duas to actions you never skip. Waking, eating, leaving, sleeping — attach the words to the routine.
    2. Start with three. Morning protection, Bismillah before food, bedtime dua. Add more as the habit sticks.
    3. Learn the meaning, not just the words. A dua you understand reaches the heart.
    4. Say them aloud around your children. What they hear from you becomes their habit too.
    5. Keep a small dua card on your desk or phone wallpaper until the words come naturally.
